T.I. Pleads Guilty To Weapons Charges; Faces Year In Jail

Rapper could be ordered to perform 1,500 hours of community service.

On Thursday afternoon (March 27), T.I. pleaded guilty to several federal weapons charges, as part of a plea deal that could send the rapper to prison for a year.

U.S. District Judge Charles Pannell Jr. will first need to sign off on the plea bargain. When sentenced a year from now, the 27-year-old rapper (born Clifford Harris) could be ordered to perform 1,500 hours of community service, which he would serve by talking to youth groups across the U.S., and about 12 months behind bars.

In addition, T.I. could be sentenced to three years' supervised release, including a year of home detention. He could also be ordered to pay a $100,000 fine.

According to the terms of the plea deal, T.I.'s prison term could be increased or reduced, depending on his fulfillment of its terms. The deal says T.I.'s message to the youth groups he'll speak to should focus on the pitfalls of guns, gangs and drugs.

Harris, who was dressed in a gray suit at the hearing, may face even stiffer prison time — several more years — if he finds himself in trouble with the law again.

T.I. was arrested back in October, mere hours before he was to headline the BET Hip-Hop Awards in Atlanta. The rapper was charged with possession of unregistered machine guns and silencers, and possession of firearms by a convicted felon. If he were found guilty without a plea bargain, he would face a maximum of 10 years in prison and a $250,000 fine for each count. T.I. initially pleaded not guilty to the charges and has been under house arrest since his release on $3 million bond October 26. He was allowed to leave his house to attend church services on Easter Sunday.

50 Cent and DJ Drama to Release G-Unit Gangsta Grillz

DJ Drama recently revealed to MTV News that himself and 50 Cent plan on releasing the very first G-Unit edition of his Gangsta Grillz mixtape series in April. According to Drama, the G-Unit boss reached out a couple of weeks ago after he dropped his Elephant In The Sand mixtape, the second volume in the Unit’s new Thisis50.com series...

“He’s really going heavy on the ThisIs50.com Web site, and he was saying basically it’s time to get G-Unit hot in the South,” Dram told MTV. “What better way to do that than to do a Gangsta Grillz? Not only from a South aspect, but from a quality street-music aspect.” Fans can look forward to appearances from all of the G-Unit MC’s, plus La Da Darkman and Willie Da Kid of Drama’s Aphilliates label. The iPod King also says that he has reached out to T.I. and some other unidentified Southern artists to contribute guest appearances. “We’re gonna have fun with it,” the DJ said of the monumental collaboration. “Let the mixtape game come back to life. It’s been over a year since the historical [RIAA] raid, and the mixtape game is still here. That’s what we’re out to prove. 50 is a monster in the game, I’m a monster in the game. The combination is gonna kill the streets.”

Kanye Joins Lil Wayne On 'Tha Carter III'

Kanye West has joined the roster of contributors to Lil Wayne's long-in-the-works album "Tha Carter III," tentatively due in May via Cash Money/Universal.

The rapper broke the news this week during an interview with BBC Radio DJ Semtex, saying West appears on three tracks and that Swizz Beatz, Jim Jonson and Deezle also appear...

"I hope it sells well," Wayne said of the album. "I never [boast] because I know you can come out and not sell [one] record. I put my all into it, it's me on a platter so if you don't like it, then you don't like me."

Wayne told Billboard in February that Hurricane Chris, Corey Gunz, Tyga, Jibbs, Shanell, Kidd Kidd, Mack Maine and Lil Mama have recorded features for the album. In addition, the rapper has worked with Alchemist and Cool & Dre.

The new album's first single, "Lollipop," is the top debut this week at No. 56 on Billboard's Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart.

Random News (Ice Cube, Fabolous & More)

Right about now, Fabolous says he's "working hard and playing harder," but all that is about to be reversed. He's going in on his next LP and wants to have it out by August. He expects to drop a single or a warm-up record by May.
"I usually go around and just get with producers I feel I wanted to work with. This time I'm going off a theme," he said. Fab's concept for the project may sound a bit familiar. He's been inspired by a film.

"I'mma put a theme together and just go off of that theme," he said. "Sometimes producers get lost trying to figure out what they think is the best type of sh-- for Fab. [They say,] 'I got this commercial joint for you.' So what I'm doing now, I seen a movie I want to theme the album after. Even take certain lines, different scenes out of the movie and make music behind that. At the same time, I can have the producer check the movie out, and he'll have something he can take away from the movie and come back with some joints. I wanted to try that this time."
"What Jay-Z did [with 'American Gangster'] ... he took that Frank Lucas character and put it in the frame of his Jay character," Fab opined. "That's what I wanna do. I don't wanna say I that I'm actually the character, but take some of his scenarios or some things I went through and tell it in my tone..."

Fab refused to disclose the movie he was patterning his album after, but he said it isn't too old, though it is classic. He doesn't anticipate too many cameos, and producers on Loso's radar include DJ Toomp, Kanye West, Just Blaze and Polow Da Don. With a structure in place, he feels he can complete his opus at a more expedient rate than usual.

"I think it will make me a little faster for some reason," he declared. "When I just go in with producer and just make music, I'm really going in. I don't know what they are gonna play me. I don't know what I'm gonna get off the beat. It's pretty much whatever comes up. But this time I watched the movie myself, wrote some things that stuck out in my head and tried to make songs off that. This time it should be easier. Well, not easier, but faster."

A single for Fab's yet-untitled (at least to us) album should arrive sometime in May. But for now, he's remixing himself into a frenzy. He just did new versions for Janet Jackson's "Feedback," Rocko's "Umma Do Me," Red Café's "Paper Touchin' " and Britney Spears' "Break the Ice."

"I didn't get to kick it with [Britney], but the people from her record label was on top of that," he said of the collaboration. "I don't know what condition Britney is in right now. Hopefully — more power to her — she'll get in a better space and position.

"Somebody needs to sit her down, let her know what the deal is," he added.

Loso may also be getting a call from Ne-Yo soon, to work on the singer's upcoming Year of the Gentleman. Fab disclosed to us that he would love to do more with his "Make Me Better" co-star.

"I been telling him we need to do the Best of Both Worlds for young, fly n---as," he said, referring to the 2004 Jay-Z/ R. Kelly tour that derailed over problems between the two artists. "I don't think [a clash of the egos] would happen with us. [We're] two good humble brothers. If we make some great music, people would love it and the demographic we would hit ... It would be great for us too. I think we can pull off a Best of Both Worlds."

Fab does have a myriad of other fellas to get in the studio with for an album. His crew, the Street Family, is making a compilation project, and singer Deemi is the newest member.

"Sometimes working alongside somebody else can help better their situation," he said of the addition. "[It'll] give her more looks, so when it's time for her to do her solo thing, that'll progress [her situation] too.

"We was gonna do it independent, but Def Jam has taken an interest in what I'm doing," he added, saying that the project will include Freck Billionaire, Red Café and Paul Cain. "I would love to keep the business all in the family. We got the avenue to do it independently or with Def Jam. We're weighing our options and seeing what the better choice is. I'mma let that one marinate."

Fab and DJ Drama's There Is No Competition installment of Gangsta Grillz is out now and Loso promised that "there will be some viral videos coming from that soon."

(Fabolous and DJ Drama told Mixtape Monday about their joint project months ago. Click the player to see it.) ...

Ice Cube and Nas haven't fully mapped out their alliance yet, but at least they've started working together. It wasn't too long ago that Cube told us he would be down to appear on Esco's Nigger, and evidently the lines of communication are open — in reverse, though. Cube actually procured a Nas verse for his upcoming Raw Footage project via the remix to "Gangsta Rap Made Me Do It." Scarface also appears.

"Scarface — me and him go way back," the Left Coast icon told us. "We been doing records together, it seems like, our whole career. So it's always good to do a record with him, Too Short or people that ... basically we grew up in the game together. So I was happy. Scarface is still one of the greatest lyricists we got out there and to have him come spit on the mic was dope."

And with Nas' new album getting pushed back, Cube is looking to see if the two outspoken icons can join forces to promote their projects together this summer.

"Nas, with the record that he's putting out this year, you know, it was kind of like it was the left and the right hand," Cube explained. "He's doing something on the East Coast that's a political kind of record; I'm doing something on the West Coast that's highly political, and it just seemed right. The remix is incredible, and I'm getting a good response, so I'm happy with that. Hopefully we can get it together. We been talking. It's really about scheduling and seeing when his record is gonna drop compared to mine." ...

"Fresh off the plane, into the Bent!" Is it safe to say that "Good Love" is probably going to be the biggest solo record Sheek Louch has ever done? We think so.

"It's different," he told us with a grin. "I'm doing what I do. I'm boppin' and it's a feel-good record. It's dope, man. Betty Wright [who is sampled on the song] is the truth. [Fans] from the midlife and on is gonna be like, 'Wow.' The young boys is gonna be like, 'He's killin' it because of what he's saying and how he's stopping, and the beat is pausing.' I'm not afraid to do that because [the people] know what we do in the streets already.

"I get the chicks. I get the chicks," he added. "I'm not saying [Jadakiss] and [Styles P.] don't, but I get some chicks. They on me, baby. Get off me, ladies! So I tried it and said, 'Let me see what's poppin'.' It worked. This 'Good Love' record, I've been getting calls everywhere saying this record is crazy from my thugs to the ladies. It's feeling great. From here to the U.K., they spinning it crazy."

Sheek's Silverback Gorilla was released last week, and he's already in the middle of putting together a star-studded remix to "Good Love" with some platinum artists. Elsewhere on the album, he brought his D-Block faction together with the Diplomats for the first time on "D-Block/Dipset."

"Styles brought [Jim Jones] in here in the studio and said, 'Listen to this.' At the time — this is how far back it goes — he brought him in to do the 'Kiss Your Ass Goodbye' remix, and he happened to get on this. He said, 'This is gonna be nuts.' That's how it happened. I had the hook I had already laid out. That's how it went down. We sat on it, and he brought one of his new guys in, which is Hell Rell. Kiss said, 'I'm getting on this.' "

If you ever are lucky enough to visit Mixtape Monday's secret hideout (we're actually located three blocks down from the Legion of Doom lair and two miles north of Parts Unknown), you'll hear us banging Silverback's "Don't Be Them." ...

Joe Budden checked in with us last week. He sent a page via BlackBerry, telling all the fans to check for his new single, "Touch & Go," and saying that there is deeper material coming soon.
" 'Touch & Go' is the first single 2 my Padded Room album coming this June," read his message. "The song is very Jersey, very dance, but not 2 be confused with anything gimmicky, or bubblegum. Quite the opposite, no matter what type of record I do, we will not dumb down lyrically. 'T & G' is the beginning of my gradual progression back 2 the mainstream world. It's 1 bullet from the clip, but not by any means the strongest 1. 2 all my Joe Budden loyalists, please be on the lookout 4 a record titled 'In My Sleep (Dreams),' which I feel rates with some of my best work 2 date. please believe me when I tell u, I got some sh-- on the way!!!!!!!!!!! U in that mood yet? Lol!" ...

Our deepest sympathies go out to the family and friends of Albany's David "DJ Wits" D'Agostino. He passed away last week. Wits, as some of you may know, was very popular in Upstate New York and was affectionately called the "Ray Charles of hip-hop." He was blind, but not only didn't he let his condition stop him from spinning records, he also was an avid golfer and skydiver. You'll be missed, homie.

Young Buck Royalty Rumors False Says Manager

Sha Money XL, manager of G-Unit rapper Young Buck has released a statement to AllHipHop.com clarifying recent rumors about the Nashville, Tennessee's status with the group.

Recent reports surfaced quoting Young Buck stating that he had "never seen a royalty check" since signing with G-Unit, despite releasing two hit albums, Straight Outta Cashville (2004) and Buck The World (2007).

“There has been a new rumor going around that 50 Cent has not paid Young Buck any royalties," Sha Money XL told AllHipHop.com. "I, as Buck’s manager and as former President of G-Unit Records want to make it clear: that is false. Young Buck has cleared over $10 million dollars working under 50 Cent’s and my guidance...”

Young Buck, born David Darnell Brown, is expected to appear on Shoot to Kill, the follow up to G-Unit’s 2003 debut album titled Beg For Mercy.

“We don’t know if a writer waited two months on the interview to stir up some new drama or just took his words wrong, but Buck is waving the G-Unit flag strong.”

Sha Money XL also denied that Young Buck was planning to split from G-Unit/Interscope in order to sign with another record label.

“Any talks of Buck signing to any other labels are false. People are playing the divide and conquer game and that’s not going to work!”

Shoot to Kill is due in stores this year.

Dr. Dre Seeks Death Row Documents

Rapper and music producer Dr. Dre wants to investigate Death Row Records Inc. to determine how much the record company owes him for unpaid royalties from sales of his records. Dr. Dre, whose real name is Andre Young, has already tried to sue the record label for royalties in several lawsuits...
Last month, a California district court agreed to hear his appeal of the bankruptcy court's dismissal of one of those suits. In the meantime, however, Young told the U.S. Bankruptcy Court in Los Angeles in recent documents that he needs to determine the value of a claim he holds against Death Row for unpaid royalties accruing after the record label's bankruptcy filing.

Young is asking for permission to obtain this information under Rule 2004 of the U.S. Bankruptcy Code, which allows bankruptcy judges to order companies to turn over documents related to their assets, liabilities and financial affairs. The documents that Young's requesting include those with information related to contracts between him and the record label, revenue from the sale of his recordings and agreements to release his recordings as part of compilation albums.

He asked the bankruptcy court to make Death Row hand over the documents on Feb. 29 and to order its representatives to be available for deposition on March 7. The dispute centers around Young's album, which was released in 1992. Young, who co-founded Death Row in 1991 with Marion ''Suge'' Knight and initially held a 50 percent ownership stake in the label, granted Death Row a license to distribute this album in exchange for royalties.

In 1996, Young agreed to surrender his ownership interest in the label but retained his right to continue to receive royalties for all recordings released prior to the agreement. Young has argued that Death Row hasn't lived up to its end of the bargain and further broke the contract by granting another company distribution rights to his recordings.

The court-appointed administrator running the record label's bankruptcy estate recently asked to sell Death Row's music-related assets to Warner Music Group Corp. for $25 million, subject to higher bids at auction.

Sheek Louch Airs Out J-Hood

Sheek Louch's third solo release, Silverback Gorilla, hit shelves today (Mar.18). SOHH caught up with the D-Block front man and chatted him up about his new project, beef with Mobb Deep and his real feelings about J-Hood.
"It ain't nothing," Sheek said of rap group Mobb Deep. "They good dudes. I like Havoc.

Prodigy dissed Sheek in his blog, listing rappers he respected and then calling Sheek "one of the worst ever."
"I know about all the comments Prodigy made about all the rappers, I still like him."
Former D-Block member J-Hood on the other hand..."He's a little clown acting like a little young boy would, just real unappreciative," Sheek told SOHH.
The rapper said he thinks J-Hood set his sights on beef with him because he needed someone to blame for his career not really taking off...

"Somebody gotta be the bad guy," Sheek said. "I took his money, I came in the studio and slapped him, I did this and that ... None of it's true."
And though Sheek did admit he thinks J-Hood has talent, he said there's no place for the former group-mate on a record with himself, D-Block or The Lox, ever.

"It's over," Sheek said. "He can't come back to me, he can't come back to D-Block, The Lox, nothing. Nobody wants to deal with him. They just don't respect his moves."
"I've known him since he was a young boy and when we hear him talking about bustin guns, us back at home, we like, 'aw, c'mon man, when did he resort to that?'" Sheek continued. "It's like, say you got a little brother or sister at home and they start actin' tough. Like now they murderers."

Louch said he, Styles P and Jadakiss gave J-Hood a chance in the industry and he's ungrateful.
"Dealin' with us three, he skipped a lot of stuff that a lot of artists go through," Sheek said. "We had him doing major interviews and major deals. Its people on the grind and been grinding longer than him. Somebody might say he ain't even have no grind."
But Louch said his grind is non stop.

His new album Silverback Gorilla has 18 tracks and every one of them the rapper said is fire.
"The concepts? Lyrically? Forget it," Sheek said. "I'm on a whole other level with this joint."
Fat Joe, Jim Jones, Hell Rell, Bun B, DJ Unk, The Game, up and coming D-Block artist Bully, and of course Styles P and Jada came through with guest features on the disc. Meanwhile Dame Grease, Vinny Idol, Soul G, Red Spyda and others went in on production.
The first single off the album "Good Love," a Red Spyda track, samples the soulful Betty Wright's "Tonight Is The Night," and is getting major nationwide radio play.
D-Block's album is dropping in July and Sheek said the Lox' disc Live, Suffer and Celebrate would be out before that, with a couple of tracks slated to leak shortly. Silverback Gorilla is in stores now via Koch Records.

A "hip-hop heavyweight," is how the New York Times described him. "The number one ghostwriter in the South," is how he described himself and his work behind the scenes for all those years. Diddy Responds to LA Times Article

Today, LA Times reporter Chuck Philips released a story on the 1994 shooting of Tupac Shakur - a shooting that did not kill the rapper but was the start of the notorious East Coast / West Coast rap war. In the article, Philips sources claim that P. Diddy and Notorious BIG was informed that Tupac was going to be shot. The full article is acaliable on latimes.com/tupac. Today, P. Diddy released a statement in response of the article:This story is beyond ridiculous and is completely false. Neither Biggie nor I had any knowledge of any attack before, during, or after it happened. It is a complete lie to suggest that there was any involvement by Biggie or myself. I am shocked that the Los Angeles Times would be so irresponsible as to publish such a baseless and completely untrue story.

Eminem “Cutting New Tracks With Dr. Dre”

Eminem is once again determined to become the real Slim Shady.

But now the superstar is back in the studio - and desperately fighting the flab.
Insiders say Eminem, real name Marshal Mathers III, as hired a personal trainer and “is working out every day to get rid of the extra weight”...

More excitingly for fans, the reclusive Detroit rapper “has been cutting new tracks with Dr. Dre”, the insider revealed. “They still have a ways to go, but so far it’s really good.”The album should be out by the end of the year or early next year - by when Eminem is aiming to be in great shape again.
A spokesperson dismissively said: “He’s always in the studio and has worked with a trainer before.”

B.G & Lil Wayne News

Lil Wayne is not trying to act like he invented the wheel or even the auto-tune device that has been re-popularized by T-Pain. No doubt, Weezy has been using the same voice-alteration method lately in songs like the "Dey Know" remix and most notably his new single (yes, a single — for those of you who doubted it would ever come) "Lollipop" (R.I.P. Static). The Birdman Jr. names Pain as one of the people in music who inspired him.

"I am music. That's me, Jack," Wayne declared. "I found a new love for music, and I got to owe it to a lot of people in the game. They don't even know. I got to owe a lot to T-Pain. He made me really look at myself. I always look at somebody like, 'I can't do what you do, but man, I damn sure wish I could.' So when I figure out what I could do about that, I go and do it. So every time I get a chance to say it, T-Pain, Prince, Wyclef, Lauryn Hill, Erykah Badu, Alicia Keys, Lenny Kravitz — all these are people I looked at the past two years.

I viewed them seriously and was like, 'Wow, I could do that without being totally them.' I can present it as Lil Wayne..."
Don't go thinking "Lollipop" is the only new song Wayne has coming in advance of Tha Carter III. There's a record called "A Millie" that's supposed to drop soon too.
Uptown New Orleans. The 13th Ward. Upperline Street, to pinpoint the location. That's where B.G. grew up and was inspired to make his music.

"I stayed here from maybe, like, 8 years old to probably 16," Gizzle told us on our trip to N.O. "When the Baby Gangster was the baby gangster. I had one brother, man. It was me, my mom and my brother. That's all."
B.G. went on to be a better gangster and moved out of the fold at age 16. But before that -- and before the record deal at 13 and touring with Cash Money Records — his childhood was pretty much on par with the norm.

"Wrasslin'!" He answered about what he and his young bro would be doing in the house. "Or I would be out. I spent a lot of time out. I would have some friends over. I spent the night over at their house, or they would be over my house. When I got older, I would be on the phone all hours of the night. I went to being a hot boy. I used to post up, making love on the phone."
One of the juveniles he would have over to his crib was a little Lil Wayne.

"Wayne used to come through when we was young," B.G. remembered. "We would write raps together in the kitchen. I would go by his crib and write raps with him. ... Man, I pretty much wrote my whole Chopper City album in there: 'So Much Debt.' 'Uptown Thing.'
"Baby took me under his wing when I was 13," he continued. "My first album comes out, second album, Chopper City, comes out. After that, I was wildin'. I'd come back [to the neighborhood] and blend right back in. This is where I felt the most comfortable."
B.G.'s Too Hood to Be Hollywood comes out in the summer.

Biggie, Diddy Knew Tupac Would Be Ambushed In 1994

Controversial journalist Chuck Philips comes out with shocking new claims about Bad Boy's beef with Shakur.

Los Angeles Times journalist Chuck Philips has more surprising allegations concerning musical icons Tupac Shakur, Notorious B.I.G. (born Christopher Wallace) and Sean "Diddy" Combs. In an article that the Times will be publishing Monday morning (March 17), Philips alleges that Combs and Wallace were aware, a week in advance, that Tupac would be ambushed in the 1994 shooting at New York's Quad Recording Studios, two years before he was shot and killed in Las Vegas.
"They were advised in advance of what was going to happen," Philips told MTV News on Saturday. "They did not know the assailants were going to be shooting. In fact, [the assailants] were told no shooting. But Tupac pulled a gun, and it went haywire. It was supposed to be a severe beating."
Shakur was at DJ Ron G's home laying down raps for a mixtape on November 30, 1994. He was called to Quad Studios to rap on a song by Uptown artist Little Shawn, for which he was to be paid $7,000. When Pac got to the studio, he was robbed, beaten and shot a reported five times by the assailants (although some reports say he shot himself twice accidently).
Philips' article also alleges that the main mastermind behind the Shakur setup was Jimmy "Henchman" Rosemond who currently manages a slew of artists such as the Game and Gucci Mane.
Philips said he arrived at this conclusion after years of delving into the incident. He has talked to men who he believes were directly involved in the shooting and has uncovered papers documenting an FBI investigation whose findings coincide with his research.
"The FBI talked to some criminals that said Jimmy Henchman was involved," Philips said.
When reached for comment on Saturday, Rosemond said Philips' story is so ridiculous, he refused to dignify it with a remark.
As Tupac's fans know, Shakur himself accused Henchman of being a part in the scheme in "Against All Odds": "And did I mention/ Promised a payback, Jimmy Henchman/ In due time/ I knew you b---- n---as was listening/ The world is mine/ Set me up/ Wet me up/ N---as stuck me up/ Heard the guns bust/ But you tricks never shut me up."
In interviews, Rosemond has gone on record saying that he played no part in the scheme.
After the Quad shooting, Shakur considered Combs and Wallace bitter enemies, and their feud continued all the way until Shakur's murder in 1996. But prior to the incident, Pac was supposedly friends with the Bad Boy camp. So why would they turn a blind eye to him being set up, or play any part in it at all? Combs was unable to be reached for comment about Philips' new article, but in the wake of the Quad shooting, both Combs and Wallace appeared on MTV to deny that they had any knowledge of who shot Tupac and said that they had nothing to do with it.

LA Times Investigates Tupac Shooting

Tupac In a web-only presentation by Los Angeles Times, Pulitzer Prize-winning staff writer Chuck Philips deconstructs the 1994 ambush of hip hop icon Tupac Shakur (2Pac) at the Quad Recording Studio in New York. The shooting of Tupac at the Quad Studios was the first shot of a lethal, bi-coastal feud that culminated in the killings of Tupac Shakur and hip hop and rap's other leading star, Christopher Wallace, better known as The Notorious B.I.G. Until the night he was murdered in 1996, the hip hop icon and rap star (2Pac) insisted that associates of Sean "Diddy" Combs were behind the brutal ambush at the Quad. New evidence - FBI records and exclusive interviews with individuals who were at the studio that night - support his suspicions. The story also discloses that there is an ongoing federal grand jury in New York investigating a series of unsolved hip hop and rap-related crimes, including the 1994 Quad assault. Tupac was pistol-whipped, shot 5 times and left for dead, but survived to write songs about the experience. The story reveals exactly who set up the ambush, how it went down and why. It shows that Combs was not only present in the studio with 2 dozen Bad Boy associates when the assault took place 10 floors below in the lobby, he was notified in advance that the trap for Tupac Shakur had been laid, according to sources familiar with the incident.

Read more for full story...

The two main players who allegedly orchestrated the ambush are interesting too. One is an ex-convict named James Rosemond (aka Jimmy Henchman), who now runs Czar Entertainment, the most successful hip-hop talent management firm in Manhattan. Rosemond's artist roster includes such hip hop and rap stars as The Game, Too $hort, Shyne and Gucci Mane. After the attack, Rosemond grew close with Combs and remains so today.

The other main player is James "Jimmy" Sabatino, the Italian-American son of a reputed captain in the Colombo crime family. He is currently serving 12 years in a federal penitentiary in Pennsylvania for racketeering and wire fraud. Sabatino was the individual who personally told Combs that Tupac Shakur (2Pac) would be attacked, sources said. After the assault, Sabatino was welcomed into Combs' inner circle. Sabatino introduced Combs to mobsters and escorted him to mobbed-up nightclubs in New York and Miami, sources said.

Sabatino also financed a recording of The Notorious B.I.G. that Bad Boy released after the rapper was murdered. Combs invited Sabatino on his 1997 "No Way Out" tour, where the alleged mob associate used fake credit cards to charge up hundreds of thousands of dollars in bills for posh hotel suites, limousines and parties on behalf of the Bad Boy entourage. Sabatino continued working with Bad Boy right up to the moment of his 1998 arrest in London.

He was subsequently extradited to the U.S., where he was convicted and locked up. Accompanied by a vivid photo-gallery of the cast of characters, copies of confidential documents, an interactive timeline and audio of lyrics and videos from Tupac Shakur and Notorious B.I.G., Chuck Philips pieces together a case that has left many in the music world as well as law enforcement officials baffled. Be sure to check out the story first thing Monday morning by visiting www.latimes.com/tupac . Philips is also scheduled to conduct a live chat with readers on Tuesday.

Flo Rida Delivers "MAIL ON SUNDAY"

There's less than one week to go until the release of one of the most eagerly awaited releases of the year: "MAIL ON SUNDAY," the debut album from Poe Boy/Atlantic recording artist Flo Rida. The collection is set to drop in stores and online next Tuesday, March 18th as Flo Rida continues to make chart history with his game-changing #1 smash single, "Low (Feat. T-Pain)." "Low," which has just been certified triple-platinum by the RIAA, now ranks as the #1 best-selling digital single of all time, with over 3.2 million sold...

"MAIL ON SUNDAY" sees Flo Rida teaming with some of today's top hit makers, including Timbaland, Will.I.Am, The Runners, J.R. Rotem, and Atlanta's DJ Montay, who produced "Low." He has also recruited a who's who of A-list collaborators, among them Atlantic Records labelmate Trey Songz (on "Freaky Deaky"), Lil Wayne (who appears on the album opener, "American Superstar"), Yung Joc (featured on the raucous party anthem "Don't Know How To Act"), and Timbaland, who shows up on the album's second single, "Elevator." Executive Producers of "MAIL ON SUNDAY" are E-Class and Mike Caren. [track listing below]

The Carol City, FL native will celebrate the release of "MAIL ON SUNDAY" with appearances next week on BET's "106 & Park" and MTV's "TRL." He is also slated for a return appearance on "The Ellen DeGeneres Show" when her show hits Orlando the first week of April. This follows Flo's recent February performances on both "Ellen" and "The Tonight Show with Jay Leno."

Meanwhile, "Low" continues to break new records with each passing week. The track has reached the #1 spot on a spectacular array of charts, earning accolades across radio, video, digital, and online outlets. The song is also featured on the Atlantic album, "STEP UP 2 THE STREETS - ORIGINAL MOTION PICTURE SOUNDTRACK," the musical companion to the Touchstone Pictures dance film.

"These are the moments that we live for -- when all the stars are aligned and a hit turns into a full-blown phenomenon," said Atlantic Chairman/CEO Craig Kallman. "'Low' grew organically and exponentially, striking a huge nerve with fans and taking on a life of its own. Flo Rida stands out because he has a truly original style and a hugely charismatic presence. He has an incredible sense of melody, with the rare gift of being able to deliver monstrously catchy hooks while at the same time being rooted in the streets. The great news is that 'Low' is only the beginning. An amazing roster of producers has checked in to contribute to 'MAIL ON SUNDAY,' and he has a string of terrific records in the pipeline. Flo Rida is going to be delivering the goods for a very long time to come."

Among Flo Rida's numerous achievements, "Low" held the #1 spot on the Billboard Hot 100 for ten weeks, and has been #1 on Billboard's Pop 100 chart for 12 weeks and still counting. "Low" was also #1 on Billboard's Hot Rap Tracks chart for 11 weeks, marking the longest-running #1 since 2004 and the seventh longest-running #1 in the chart's history.

Flo Rida made hip-hop history when "Low" became the first-ever debut single from a rap artist to top the CHR/Top 40 radio chart, where it is now in its sixth week at #1, and only the fourth rap artist to hit #1 since 2005. "Low" was ranked #1 at Rhythmic radio nationwide for nine weeks.

"Low" held the #1 spot on Billboard's Hot Digital Songs chart for 13 consecutive weeks, and was #1 on iTunes for 14 weeks in a row. The track broke the single-week digital sales record the week after Christmas when sales exceeded 470,000 downloads (besting the previous record-holder, Fergie's "Fergalicious," by some 176,000 downloads). Flo Rida also became the first-ever debut artist to have two top ten digital singles prior to an album release, when "Elevator (Feat. Timbaland)" entered the top ten only three weeks after its release.

"Low" has also been certified as a platinum ringtone by the RIAA, with nearly 1.5 million in sales to date. The track recently broke the record for the most consecutive weeks as the #1 ringtone in the country, with 13 weeks in the top spot on the Nielsen RingScan chart.

On the video front, "Low" has been the #1 video on both BET and MTV, while also topping the charts at BET's "106 & Park" and MTV's "TRL." It has also been the #1 clip on MTV.com and has ranked at #1 on AOL Music for four weeks and counting. As part of MTV's Discover & Download program, Flo Rida is now featured on the shades at the network's Times Square studio. In addition, he will be the spotlight artist of MTV's coveted 52/52 promotional campaign during the album's street week. Flo Rida is slated to perform as part of MTV's Spring Break programming on April 7th as well as BET's upcoming Spring Bling.

Flo Rida is the #3-ranked artist on MySpace, while "Low" has been played over eight million times on YouTube.

Meanwhile, "Elevator (Feat. Timbaland)" is quickly following in the footsteps of "Low," having already bulleted into the top 30 at Rhythmic radio and the top 40 at Urban radio.

"I approach music from a universal level and not just a neighborhood feel," says Flo Rida of his category-busting appeal. "I always try and come from the left field, but still stay somewhere where everyone can relate."

Eminem And Royce Da 5'9" Squash Beef

Detroit’s two most prominent emcees, Royce Da 5’9” and Eminem, have officially resolved their longstanding differences.

“I been talking to Em,” Royce revealed to HipHopDX.com exclusively today. “I didn’t even really wanna tell nobody [yet]. That was kinda like a secret thing. I don’t really know where it’s gonna go. Right now we’re just really focusing on repairing the friendship. That’s the most important thing to me.”

And what did the two old friends discuss in their first conversation in years? Not music, says Royce, “We just been talking about intangible shit like movies, our favorite movies, just realizing how much shit we always had in common. That first conversation we had we talked for like two hours, just about everything. We did a lot of catching up...”

What the two original “Renegades” have rumored to have newly in common is a reunion track produced by DJ Premier, but Royce explains that a new recording session between the two has yet to take place. “We haven’t really spoken in-depth [yet] about anything creative,” says Royce. “That session hasn’t happened yet. He told me he had some of the best shit recorded right now that he’s ever done in his life. I ain’t even got a chance to get with him to hear it yet. He ain’t heard what I got [new], and I ain’t heard what he got [new]. That’s kinda like what our friendship is, it’s always been real competitive. It’s always been that we motivate each other.

And I think we at a point in our careers where we both need that.”Em and Royce’s long overdue reconciliation was ironically initiated by one of Slim Shady’s newest rhyme partners taking shots at one of his oldest. “The Cashis thing was like a blessing,” says Royce of the recently released video interview wherein which Cashis threatens Royce over alleged insults made about Eminem. “That [situation] is what got me and Em [back] together. That’s why I didn’t really [address Cashis' comments]. He was just talking, not knowing who he talking about. I wasn’t gonna move [on him] until I found out what Em’s thoughts were [on the situation]. We done been through too much.”

Royce’s current feelings about Eminem’s newest protégé are thankfully all positive. “My thoughts on Cashis is I don’t have no problem with him,” says Royce. “I think he felt he was doing good. He felt like he was ridin’ for Em. But I’m just glad it didn’t get to [be beef]. So if I see Cashis, I’ll show him nothing but love because Em vouched for him. He told me that Cashis said he was sorry, and I can’t really say nothing after that.”

Since squashing that potential beef via his reconciliation with Eminem, Royce has been hard at work putting the finishing touches on his highly anticipated next mixtape, The Bar Exam 2, hosted by Green Lantern, as well as his two forthcoming full-length releases, The Revival and Street Hop, both executive produced by DJ Premier. With all that on deck, Royce is sure to be a force to be reckoned with in ’08. “Trust me, man, it’s ‘bout to be crazy,” he aptly notes. “I’ma call [Eminem] today. I’ma stay on him and once we past… As soon as the creative part gets back into our relationship, I don’t know what’s gonna happen. I felt like I never had beef with him. It was more of a falling out between two brothers. It was just two brothers not speaking to each other for a minute. But now we speaking again. So sky’s the limit on what’s gonna happen from there.”
